About Me

Lizenia Pazmin, RDN

I’ve been a foodie since before I discovered dietetics. This was only possible because of my extensive exposure to different flavors and textures from a young age. I was born in the Bronx, NY to Colombian immigrants. They kept their culture alive through food and music. My taste buds actually flourished when my family moved back to Colombia at the age of 2 . I love me some hen feet, cow liver, and give me all the fiber from fruits like Lulo!

Lulo is a fruit typically found in the Cauca Valley region of Colombia where my family is from. Think pomegranate (hard shell, small seeds inside) but sour. It’s typically eaten on top of shaved ice or made into a smoothie.

Anything refreshing because this is a tropical region.

My family migrated back to the US and this time we headed to South Carolina. I got introduced to a whole different cuisine. Then becoming a waitress for a catering company was a turning point for my inner foodie. I found myself discovering even more incredible flavors from Europe, North Africa, and Asia. Besides Colombian food, Japanese and Indian quickly became my top two. Honestly, how lucky was I.

Now that I understand nutrition like how it shapes what we eat, influences our health, and intertwines so deeply with culture I can finally see just how fortunate I’ve been. Those experiences, those flavors, those lessons weren’t just lucky moments. They were preparing me to become the kind of provider I aspire to be.
